Healthcare Policy and Regulation
Dr. David Mason recently attended a course through the Alliance for Medical Management Education at UT Dallas on Healthcare Policy and Regulation. The class recently traveled to Washington, DC, where participants met with key legislators, lobbyists, administrators and reporters to study the complex process by which healthcare legislation makes its way through Congress.
The group also explored the role of lobbyists and the media in shaping public and Congressional opinion on heal policy issues, how the administrative bureaucracy transforms legislation into statutory law, and discussed healthcare regulatory enforcement with the Federal Trade Commission and the Office of the Inspector General.
UNTHSC-TCOM (OMM) Freedom Award Nominee
UNTHSC-TCOM (OMM) was recently nominated for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for 2013. It is a prestigious honor to be among the 2,899 employers nominated nationwide, considering all nominations were submitted by an employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve. The award is in recognition of exemplary support of Guard and Reserve Employees.
Dr. Clay Walsh is an Assistant Clinical Professor in OMM and serves as Director of Richards College, Course Director for the OMM Year 3 Core Clerkship, and Faculty Advisor for the SAAO. He is a Colonel and a Chief Flight Surgeon in the Ohio Air National Guard and is active with the local Texas Air Guard unit.
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course
Sajid Surve, DO, a Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation/Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/OMM physician from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey presented a Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Guided Injection course for OMM faculty development in the OMM Lab July 19 and 20, 2013.
Geoffrey Guttmann, PhD, Associate Professor in Cell Biology and Anatomy hosted the group in the anatomy lab for cadaveric injection skills. Drs. Daniel Clearfield and Mason were table trainers for the program. Twelve faculty, residents, and GTAs attended the course.
The OMM Department recently purchased a MSK ultrasound system that will enable additional services to be offered in the clinic.
