Empowerment and taking ownership are two themes that will be discussed at the upcoming Living WELL Aware workshop on Friday, May 10, 2013. Patricia Sulak, M.D. is the founder and creator of Living WELL Aware. Dr. Sulak is Board Certified in OB-GYN and is on the faculty of Scott & White Clinic and Hospital and Texas A & M Health Sciences Center College of Medicine. As a nationally known clinician, researcher and educator, she began working on a program that would not only provide information on the most common health problems and their causes, but also the resources, skills and motivation to make lasting changes in one’s life. Concern for her patients evolved into inspiration which resulted in the creation of Living WELL Aware. Dr. Sulak refers to preventable conditions as “lifestyle induced diseases” such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, etc. Dr. Sulak said “Scientific data shows that 80% of our diseases are completely preventable and we are making ourselves sick.”
