Types of Aid Available
Scholarships
A scholarship is a form of financial aid given to students based on academic or other achievements to help pay for education expenses. Scholarships are a form of gift aid and generally do not have to be repaid.
Grants
A grant is a type of financial aid based on financial need that the student does not have to repay. At UNTHSC, grants are awarded on a first-come first-serve basis to students with the most need and may include:
-
Texas Public Education Grant
-
UNTHSC Grant
Work Study
Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student's course of study.
Loans
A loan is a type of financial aid that must be repaid, with interest. The Federal Student Loan Program is a good method of financing the costs of your college education. These loans are better than most consumer loans because they have lower interest rates. The Federal Loans and Perkins Loans also provide a variety of deferment options and extended repayment terms.
