Darlene has been the Executive Director of TECH Fort Worth, a 17-year-old nonprofit technology business incubator, since mid-2006. She designs and leads programs designed to help entrepreneurs with proprietary technology create and grow businesses that are designed to maximize their potential, creating jobs and wealth in the community. She is also the Second Vice Chair for the National Business Incubation Association, where she has been a Board member for the past seven years, working with leading incubators from all over the world.

University-Based Incubation for Nurturing New Companies

Before joining the staff at UNTHSC in 2013, Joe fostered the development of new pharmaceutical and medical device companies arising out of university technologies. Reata Pharmaceuticals and Starr Frame LLC are two examples. At UNTHSC Dr. Allred is responsible for the Office of Research Development and Commercialization , overseeing intramural grant programs at UNTHSC, research-funding development and commercialization of UNTHSC technologies through licensing and startup company development.

A Success Story from Incubator to IPO

Al co-founded ZS Pharma in 2008. He is a veteran of the pharmaceutical industry with over 30 years of leadership experience in bringing new therapies to market at both well-established and start-up companies. Prior to ZS Pharma, Al held senior positions at Genzyme/Bone Care, Wyeth and Boeringher Ingelheim, as well as at start-up companies such as Medeva Americas and Adams Respiratory Therapeutics. Most recently, Al held the role of Vice President of Quality and Scientific Affairs at Ash Access Technology, which developed a catheter lock for patients with ESRD on dialysis.

Based in Boston, Andrew has been a representative for the Alsace Region and Alsace BioValley since 1995. In addition to working for the Alsace Region, he has worked with many other countries, regions and cities in Europe, Asia and the Americas on location promotion strategies. Andrew's areas of expertise include investment promotion, business development, strategic partnering and corporate site selection. His project work has covered a range of industry segments and disciplines, from financial services strategy to healthcare business development, and from university technology transfer to regional cluster development.


William Burns

Presentation on Encore Vision

William has been president & CEO of Encore Vision since 2006. He also serves as a member of the Encore Vision Board of Directors. After 20 years of service at Alcon Laboratories, Mr. Burns created his own firm in 2005, SWB & Associates, Inc. providing business consulting services to eye care professionals. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for High Performance Optics. At Alcon Laboratories, Mr. Burns held a number of executive positions during his career, most recently V.P. Worldwide Marketing for Pharmaceutical and Consumer Products having directed teams responsible for input to clinical development plans and marketing for most of the products comprising Alcon's currently marketed pharmaceutical and consumer lines.
