In partnership with Tarrant County Medical Society, Project Access provides medical services to qualified patients in need.  As a medical case manager, I am an advocate for patients in the community with service providers and agencies.  My main responsibilities are monitoring and evaluating patient progress and adjusting service plans and/or delivery as necessary.   I also assist with the follow-up of pending cases by reviewing and connecting patients with specialists.

This fellowship is designed to provide training and work experience in accordance with CSTE competencies.   I am working on a number of projects, from surveillance, outbreak investigations and public health prepardness projects. My main project is helping to maintain the State of Hawaii of Antimicrobial Resistance Project (SHARP). The data that is collected in SHARP contains the majority of the antimicrobial susceptibility test data in the state, and from this data we are able to track changes in antimicrobial susceptibilities. Currently I am looking at data from SHARP to determine the possibility of Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae infections and the epidemiology of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the state.

My assignments have taken me to Ohio, California, Guam, Indonesia, and the Middle East. My career field focuses on the direct application of public health principles in support of force protection and humanitarian assistance.
