International Applicants

Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Health Administration (MHA) & Dual Degree (DO/MPH, MPH/MS Applied Anthropology, MPH/MS in Nursing) Programs

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Applicants must complete an application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service, SOPHAS. All application materials need to be submitted directly to the application service, UNTHSC SPH does not require a supplemental application.

  • Submit complete, official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
  • Submit official scores from one of the following graduate admissions examinations:

o Graduate Record Examination (GREinstitutional code 6565
o Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
o Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)
o Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)
o Pharmacy School Admissions Test (PCAT)
o Dental School Admissions Test (DAT)
o The examination requirement is waived for applicants possessing a professional doctoral degree with a license to practice in the United States.

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose (1-2 double spaced pages)
  • Current resume or curriculum vita
  • If invited for an interview, applicants are expected to participate in either an on-campus interview or a technology-assisted interview.

MPH Professional Option

In addition to the above mentioned requirements applicants to the Masters of Public Health Professional Option must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants with an advanced degree (e.g., PhD, DO, MD, JD, MSN, MBA, PA; or
  • Applicants currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program other than an MPH; or
  • Three or more years of work experience in the health professions.

Doctor of Public Health Practice (DrPH)

  • To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Hold a MPH or related master's degree(s) (or terminal clinical/doctoral degree) from a recognized institution
  • Submit an application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) at www.sophas.org
  • All application materials need to be submitted to SOPHAS, UNTHSC-SPH does not require a supplemental application
  • Submit complete, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Submit official scores from one of the following graduate admissions examinations:

    o Graduate Record Examination (GRE) use institutional code: 6565
    o Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
    o Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)

    o Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)
    o Pharmacy School Admissions Test (PCAT)
    o Dental School Admissions Test (DAT)
    o The examination requirement is waived for applicants possessing a professional doctoral degree with a license to practice in the United States.

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation from profession­als who are familiar with the applicant's academic and/or professional work
  • Current resume or curriculum vita
  • Statement of Purpose (1-2 pages) addressing the appli­cant's career goals and how the DrPH will assist career aspirations
  • Current resume or curriculum vita
  • A minimum graduate GPA of 3.2. Although a minimum GPA has been established, admission to the program is highly competitive
  • A minimum of three years of significant public health or other appropriate work experience is strongly recommended
  • If invited for an interview, applicants are expected to participate in either an on-campus interview or a technology-assisted interview

Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health Sciences (PhD)

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution
  • Completion of a MA, MS, MPH or a related master's degree(s) from a recognized institution is preferred
  • A minimum graduate GPA of 3.2. Although a minimum GPA has been established, admission to the program is highly competitive
  • Submit an application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) at www.sophas.org
  • All application materials need to be submitted to SOPHAS, UNTHSC-SPH does not require a supplemental application
  • Submit complete, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Submit official scores from one of the following graduate admissions examinations:

    o Graduate Record Examination (GRE) use institutional code: 6565
    o Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
    o Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)

    o Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)
    o Pharmacy School Admissions Test (PCAT)
    o Dental School Admissions Test (DAT)
    o The examination requirement is waived for applicants possessing a professional doctoral degree with a license to practice in the United States.

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation from profession­als who are familiar with the applicant's academic and/or professional work
  • Current resume or curriculum vita
  • Statement of Purpose (1-2 pages) addressing the appli­cant's career goals and how the PhD will assist career aspirations
  • Current resume or curriculum vita
  • Applicants will be reviewed for best fit with concentra­tions and faculty mentors
  • If invited for an interview, applicants are expected to participate in either an on-campus interview or a technology-assisted interview. Interviews on campus or by telephone at the student's request are always welcome

Graduate Certificate in Public Health & Non-Degree

To be considered for non-degree admission or Graduate Certificate in Public Health, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited university or college.
  • The student in this status is required to receive credit in all graduate courses taken, and must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Submit the following items to the SPH Office of Student & Academic Services

Note: UNTHSC School of Public Health does not sponsor student visas for international students for the non-degree or certificate programs.
