Summer Training Among Research Scientists (STARS) Program

The STARS program provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to gain experience in a research laboratory under the supervision of faculty and senior graduate students. Participants are selected in open competition and must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Junior standing the upcoming fall semester
  • 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Major in the life sciences (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, etc.)
  • Intention of pursuing a Ph.D. after graduation

Summer Research Internship

Participants will be awarded faculty-mentored summer research internships. These internships are full-time ten-week commitments. Interns will:

  • work with faculty mentor whose research interests are related to their own;
  • receive a stipend of approximately $3,000
  • write a paper based on the intern's research results; and
  • develop a computer-assisted oral presentation and a research poster to be presented at the end of the summer program
  • program runs May 20 through July 26, 2013

Application Packet

The following materials must be submitted by the applicant by March 22, 2013 (This is not a postmark date. All materials must be received by March 22nd for consideration):

  • Checklist
  • Application
  • Current transcript
  • Transcripts of all colleges previously attended
  • Two recommendation letters from faculty members. Click here to launch the recommendation form. (Print two copies)
